Referral criteria
Each indication is a professional decision based on the records, imaging and examination.
Primary or secondary lymphedema of the arms or legs, including swelling after cancer treatment. Surgery is considered after at least 6 months of well-conducted complete decongestive therapy, or when conservative treatment no longer brings further improvement.
Painful, disproportionate fat on the legs or arms that does not respond to diet or exercise, with ongoing conservative therapy. Treatment is lymph-sparing liposuction, often in planned stages.
Because lymphedema progresses, reconstructive surgery works best in early stages and should not be delayed once it is indicated. Early referral keeps more options open.
How to refer
Referrals follow the same four steps as the patient pathway. Patients can also contact us directly.
STEP 1
E-mail info@drmohos.com with a short clinical summary. Please do not attach medical documents to the first e-mail; our reply explains how to share them securely.
STEP 2
Dr. Mohos reviews the records with the patient in a booked online appointment. The patient receives a written professional recommendation and an estimated cost.
STEP 3
In Veszprém, a clinical examination and ICG lymphography confirm the findings, and the final treatment plan is agreed with the patient.
STEP 4
Surgery at Balaton Private Clinic. Aftercare continues with the local therapist, with remote follow-up at scheduled intervals.

Working together
Surgery adds to conservative therapy; it does not replace it. The local therapist remains central to the result.
With your patient’s consent, you receive a copy of the written professional recommendation after the online consultation. If surgery is not the right option, it explains why and which alternatives make sense.
Complete decongestive therapy continues with the local lymphedema therapist, and our team reviews progress remotely at scheduled intervals.
Expertise
The Lymphatic Disease Program at Balaton Private Clinic has been awarded LE&RN’s Lymphatic Disease Surgery Network of Excellence designation. Dr. Mohos publishes and lectures on lymphedema imaging and supermicrosurgery, including at the Wiener Lymphologisches Symposium and the International Society of Lymphology.
Yes. Patients can send a short enquiry through the consultation form. A referral from you is welcome but not required.
No. The first consultation takes place online. The patient travels to Veszprém only for the in-person assessment and treatment, after receiving a written professional recommendation.
ICG lymphography, lymphoscintigraphy, MRI or ultrasound reports, if available. ICG lymphography is also performed in Veszprém as part of the in-person assessment.
The local lymphedema therapist continues compression and decongestive therapy, and our team reviews progress remotely at scheduled intervals.
