Conditions
Both are recognized, chronic medical conditions with defined treatment pathways. Many patients wait years for a clear diagnosis.
A chronic swelling caused by impaired lymphatic drainage, primary or secondary to cancer treatment, trauma or infection. Conservative therapy comes first. Surgery is considered when it has not been enough.
Typical signs
A chronic disorder of fat distribution, mostly affecting the legs and arms, often with pain, tenderness and easy bruising. Lymph-sparing liposuction can relieve symptoms in selected patients.

Procedures
The right operation depends on stage, tissue quality and your goals. Many patients benefit from a staged combination.
Supermicrosurgical lymphatic reconstruction
Lymphatic vessels a fraction of a millimeter wide are connected to adjacent venules so that lymph can drain into the venous system. Considered mainly in early to intermediate lymphedema.
Physiological reconstruction
Lymph nodes with their blood supply are transferred from a donor site to the affected limb to support lymph drainage. Considered for selected patients, typically with more advanced disease.
Lymphedema and lipedema
In lymphedema, removal of accumulated tissue once the fluid component is controlled. In lipedema, treatment of painful fat deposits while protecting the lymphatic vessels.
When surgery is considered. After at least 6 months of well-conducted complete decongestive therapy (CDT), or when further improvement is no longer possible. The indication is always a professional decision, made case by case.
