Lymphedema and lipedema surgery abroad: how it works

International patients reach surgery at the Lymphatic Disease Program at Balaton Private Clinic in four clear steps: you send a short enquiry and then share your records securely, have an online consultation with Dr. Balázs Mohos, travel to Veszprém, Hungary, for an in-person assessment and the final treatment plan, and then receive treatment followed by aftercare at home. You decide about travel only after you have received a written professional recommendation.

The four steps

From your first enquiry to follow-up at home

Each step has a clear purpose. You only travel once a written recommendation confirms that surgery is a reasonable option for you.

01

Enquiry and records

From home

Start with a short enquiry through the consultation form. Please do not attach medical documents to the form. Our written reply, within a few working days, tells you which records to prepare (diagnosis, medical history, imaging reports and your compression therapy record) and how to share them securely. These records allow Dr. Mohos to assess your case before the consultation, so the time together is spent on your questions and options.

02

Online consultation

Online, from home

Dr. Mohos reviews your case with you in a booked online appointment. Afterwards you receive a written professional recommendation and an estimated cost. If surgery is not the right option, the recommendation explains why.

03

In-person assessment and final plan

Balaton Private Clinic, Veszprém, Hungary

In Veszprém, a clinical examination and ICG lymphography confirm the findings of the online consultation. Dr. Mohos then agrees the final treatment plan with you.

Treatment and follow-up

Balaton Private Clinic, then at home

Surgery takes place at Balaton Private Clinic. For most procedures the hospital stay is one night. Back home, your local therapist continues compression and decongestive therapy, and we review your progress remotely at scheduled intervals. As the limb gets smaller in the first months, compression garments usually need to be refitted.
